The FP7 biorefinery sister projects (SUPRABIO, BIOCORE, EUROBIOREF and STAR-COLIBRI) regularly update a list of relevant biorefinery-related events. The list is available here.
High-level Policy-maker Conference
Sister project Star-COLIBRI (www.star-colibri.eu) organized a High-level Policy-maker Conference on Biorefineries on Wednesday 5 October at the prestigious Solvay Library in Brussels. A panel of high-level speakers came together to discuss key policy priorities in the context of the upcoming bio-economy strategy. Special emphasis was given to the important role of biorefineries in achieving the ambitious goals set out in the strategy, such as resource-efficiency, sustainability and greenhouse gas reduction. One of the highlights of the event was the official publication of the Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030 (available here) and the Joint European Research Roadmap 2020 (available here).
EUROBIOREF Summer School
Hotel Orsa Maggiore, Castro Marina, Lecce (Italy), 18 - 24 September 2011
Sister project EuroBioRef (www.eurobioref.org) organized a Summer School in Italy in September 2011, under the title “Utilization of Biomass for the Production of Chemicals or Fuels - The concept of Biorefinery comes into operation”. A book will be published based on the lectures given at the summer school.
BIOCORE European Training course
Hotel Explorers, Magny Le Hongre (France), 29 August –1 September 2011
The BIOCORE project organises a biorefining school that will be held in the Greater Paris Region (30 km from Paris) from 29 August to 1st September 2011. The aim of the training course on is to offer an informationally-rich, novel educational opportunity, which will address important biorefinery-associated issues and provide the trainee with a state of the art view of the field. The course will be taught by top-level European specialists, active R&D and industry.
For further information about the biorefining school, please visit https://colloque.inra.fr/biorefiningschool.
The application form is available at https://colloque.inra.fr/biorefiningschool/Applications until 30 April 2011.
Biorefinery PhD course
Copenhagen Institue of Technology, Aalborg University, Ballerup (Denmark), 6 - 10 June 2011
Aalborg University organises a PhD course on biorefineries for the production of fuels, chemicals and feed that will be held in Ballerup from 6 to 10 June 2011. The PhD course will give a detailed overview of different biorefinery concepts and present how different types of biomass resources can serve as feedstock for the production of biofuels, chemicals, raw materials and animal feed.
For further information about the course and how to register, please visit www.sustainablebiotechnology.aau.dk or contact Stephanie REDMOND, phone: +45 99402595.
The course registration form is available at http://phdcourse.aau.dk/index.php?list=29583.
Star-COLIBRI Expert Forum Conference on Biorefineries
Radisson Blu Béke Hotel, Budapest (Hungary), 12-13 April 2011
The Star-Colibri project organises an expert forum conference on biorfineries that will be held in Budapest on 12 and 13 April 2011. The conference aims at initiating partnerships between projects on a European as well as national level and will provide a platform for networking between stakeholders; it will also gather input for two major policy documents in the framework of the Hungarian Presidency of the EU: the Joint European Biorefinery Vision for 2030 and the Joint Strategic Research Roadmap for Biorefineries for 2020.
Further information about the conference and the registration form are available at http://www.star-colibri.eu/events/.
Networking Event of the joint FP7 Biorefinery Projects
European Renewable Energy House, Brussels (Belgium), 7 February 2011
The four projects funded under the FP7-2009-BIOREFINERY call, including SUPRABIO, jointly organised a Biorefinery Networking Event on 7 February 2011 in Brussels.
The event brought together industry and research partners as well as policy makers from the biorefinery and bio-based economy field. Interest in the meeting was high and the meeting room at the Renewable Energy House was filled to capacity.

Invited speakers gave presentations on European and (inter-)national biorefinery projects and initiatives, and on European policy. This was followed by a discussion panel and a networking cocktail.
The event served as a platform for networking, between consortium partners of the FP7 projects BIOCORE, EUROBIOREF, SUPRA-BIO and STAR-COLIBRI, as well as with other biorefinery projects and networks. The proceedings of the networking event are available here. The presentations, in PDF format, are available here.
