Innovation congress, Brussels
On 5-6 December 2011, the European Commission is holding its first Innovation Convention in Brussels. More than 1200 participants are expected. An accompanying exhibition will showcase exciting research and innovation results being developed in Europe. More details are available here.
Uses of glycerol, Brussels
Three research projects supported under the 2007 Energy call of the Seventh Framework Programme aim to develop innovative technologies for converting glycerol in biorefineries into new bioproducts including transport biofuels. As the projects are coming to an end shortly, Supermethanol, Glyfinery and Propanergy will jointly organise an international workshop on innovative uses of glycerol from the biodiesel process on 13 December 2011 in Brussels. Details on the workshop including a registration form are available here.
Harvesting, pretreatment and storage of biomass, Denmark
Sister project EuroBioRef (www.eurobioref.org) will organize a half-day public workshop on harvesting, pretreatment and storage of biomass for biorefineries on 12 January 2012, in conjunction with the annual Danish Plant Production Congress that in Herning, Denmark. The draft agenda for the workshop is as follows.

Industrial Use of Renewable Raw Materials: Chemistry, Biotechnology, Process Engineering.
14-15 February 2012, DECHEMA House, Frankfurt, Germany
This symposium is targeting experts from industrial and academic research, who are involved in the chemical use of renewable resources. Innovative solutions for raw material production, biomass treatment and process engineering along the value chain will be presented.
A special highlight of the conference will be the presentation of large national and European research projects for the development of innovative biorefining strategies, including SUPRABIO, BIOCORE, EUROBIOREF, and STAR-COLIBRI. At the accompanying exhibition companies have the opportunity to present innovative processes and solutions.
Advanced Biofuels in a Biorefinery Approach,
28 February - 1 March 2012, Copenhagen, Denmark
The conference will cover the latest developments in advanced biofuels and biorefinery technology, with a special focus on biology/biotechnology, infrastructure, integration of technologies and deployment/commercialization. The conference is coordinated with meetings in the two IEA Bioenergy networks Task 39 (Commercializing liquid biofuels from biomass) and Task 42 (Biorefineries) and there will be dedicated sessions for the IEA Bioenergy networks.
