CONTRIBUTIONS TO PROJECT

Evaluation of bio-refinery wastewater and other wastes for the production of value added products such as mixed acid intermediates and biogas.
Optimisation of the Enzymic Hydrolysis process for the production mixed acid intermediates.
Pilot scale demonstration of the production of mixed acid intermediates using novel Inverted Phase Fermentation, a form of Enzymic Hydrolysis.
Utility Management study to contribute to the formulation of a strategy for water and wastewater management and the Engineering Integration of Heat and Utilities management for whole bio-refinery schemes.
Environment & Sustainability study to contribute the technological and environmental assessment of bio-refinery schemes.

EXPERIENCE AND FACILITIES

The highly successful Enzymic Hydrolysis project at Blackburn that was supported by the EU LIFE programme (LIFE05 ENV/UK/00124, more information under www.enzymichydrolysis.com) was rated by the Commission as best of the best top five projects in 2008. The Company is considered one of the most innovative and most active in R&D in the UK water sector having won a number of prestigious awards in recent years including the 2005 UK Utility Week award for the environment; the 2007 International Energy Globe Awards (the World Awards for Sustainability); and seven Big Ticks by Business in the Community (BiTC) for its excellent contributions in many aspects of community life.
